consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it.
a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.
Eventually we move to "BEING MOTHER" and "MOTHERHOOD" following by recognition of kindness in others being both mother and other than mother.
In relation to the presence of children and without any prior knowledge we can "sense" the being of mother.
